last of a dying breed...

Growing up skating there were two shops in the area Ooga Booga Beach, and XLR8. They were kindaoflike (like that word) rival shops. The surfer style skaters usually went to Ooga while the more urban city style kicked it at XLR8. I kicked it at XLR8 because that's where my crew was plus it was much closer to get to the bus stop than Oooga Booga. On the side of XLR8 they had a nice 3 stair to grind, and if you ollied up it would lead you to a quick 7 stair drop! Another good thing about XLR8 was when a new vid would come out they'd throw a fuckin' ragggggeeeerrrr.

Time went on and XLR8 eventually got shut down due to shady employees (fuck you mutherfuckers!) stealing waaaay too much shyt. After XLR8 got shut down Ooga became the new spot in east bay to cop some real skate shyt. However, just as with XLR8 shady employees, and bad business management lead to their downfall (as well as the onslaught of mail order and big corporation trying to jump on the "skate bandwagon"). Now the only place to go is fucklands aka Copland Sport, or ZUMIEZ to get your shyt which just didn't seem right to me, so I'd make the journey all the way (25some od miles) to 510 SKATE SHOP in Berkeley in order to get some gear. Then came along METRO.

Metro is now the only legitimate skate shop in the East Bay (concord/walnut creek/ tinez/ p hill area) to cop any kind of skate related attire (fucklands just bit the big one if you didn't know). Metro is located at 1120 Contra Costa blvd in Pleasant Hill. They deal mainly with skateboards, sneakers, tees, and other skate related accessories. They sell a lot of the major brands such as LAKAI, DIAMOND, KREW, GIRL, KROOKED, EMERICA, SUPRA, plus many more of your favorite skate companies. They also have a pretty strong skate team, which includes Shawn Lloyd, Matty Hunt, Corey Duffel, Paul Seaholm, Chris Jatoft, James McVeigh, Matt Guevara, Adam Stoiber, Kyle Anderson, Mike Brown, Greg Millions, and Mark Smallhoover. The shop also has a full size mini ramp that brings in skaters from all over ($5bucks to skate). Metro also allows local hip-hop and graffiti artists paint their work, so if you're in the area hit them up! Their number is (925) 363-7440, and they're open from 11 am-8pm Monday thru Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday. Go by and support one of the last real skate shops around
